HARD RESET

We are working on several things to get us back on the right foot moving forward. Our house has not been in good order (Doctrine & Covenants 88:119) for a while and it is really coming to bite us in the behind.

We have brought back a no-tech hour after school. The kids are still chomping at the bit come 5:00, but they are getting better about working on other things that need to be done during that time, such as homework, scripture study, playing games/activities together, listening to music, reading, etc.

Ryan and I are reassessing our budget. We've had a couple REALLY big expenses come up that we are working on money for and realizing we need to change our spending habits in order to create a cushion for savings that stays in savings. Tonight we addressed some of it with the kids and hopefully by helping them understand we don't have a bottomless pit of money to draw from (unfortunately) they will know we are trying to put ourselves in a better financial position to be able to do more in the future.

I am trying to get myself caught up on household chores (read- laundry) so I can get back to decluttering and organizing the house. I've slacked off working on it, but I finally feel like it's time to get back at it.

As a family, we are trying to be better and more consistent about our individual and family scripture reading/study and family night (FHE) each week. The kids seem really excited about the activity book and doing the activities. Ryan and I will have to be sure to stress the main focus each week since the activities use the scriptures, but the kids may not internalize it. We also try to make FHE fun with a little lesson so the kids will WANT to have that time each week.

We are hoping as we "seek first the Kingdom of God" (Matthew 6:33) and "trust in the Lord" (Proverbs 3:5) we will be blessed in all other areas in our lives we are striving to improve. We know we are blessed. We know we will be blessed. And we know, that one day, our efforts will pay off.

During family prayer tonight, after going over some of the financial things with the kids, Griffin asked for a blessing on our family to be better about how we spend our money. It was really sweet to know he listened and that he could also ask the Lord for help too. Maybe our efforts are paying off a little bit already.
