Today was the first day of two-hour church. In many ways, it was the same and in many ways it was different. We still had to keep active kids reverent during sacrament meeting, Primary is still crazy and the kids want a treat during class, and we got home around lunchtime. However, class times were super short, especially as a teacher...yikes! Only having music time was great because it usually lets the kids be interactive and not need to sit still after sacrament meeting. All the kids seemed to enjoy their new teachers, classes, and shorter church.
However, it made me realize today just how much we need to have the kids prepared for Sunday. With 20-minute classes, it's really important they already know what will be talked about, so they can participate and understand more during class time. Since I teach primary, I accomplish this by getting an overall plan for my next class, emailing a newsletter to the parents with what I want them to focus on with their children, and it helps me put together a study plan for our kids each day. So far...day 1 is a success! :)
Our kids have also been really good today. After a week of struggling with behavior and getting them to do their chores quickly and with little to no complaining, today it happened. They all...ALL did their chores when asked, only a couple of them complained, and they did their assigned jobs quickly. Also, I gave them their study sheet for the week* and they all got right on it and completed the assignment for today. Not sure what changed today versus the rest of the week, but I'll take our little Sunday Miracle!
*I read through the assignment and broke down what I thought we should focus on and then broke it down into smaller pieces for them to study each day.
