This is year was a big DUD!!!
We didn't account for all the rain we've been having that increased the depth and speed of the river making it unsafe to swim. Because the water level was high, all the fossil footprints were underwater and not visible. Since we had planned on swimming and because it was hot outside, we did not plan on doing much hiking/walking around and didn't bring the right shoes to hike in. Not only all that, but the kids were very cranky and not getting along the whole way there.
Since we couldn't swim in the river, couldn't hike, and couldn't see all the footprints, we told the kids we would go swimming in one of the pools back home. This too was not to be since by the time we made it back it was pouring due to a big ol' Texas Thunder Storm.
The good news is that the most cranky of the kids slept on the way home and we were able to have a nice afternoon/evening just hanging out at home.
