After breakfast, we hopped on a city tour bus that allows you to get on and off at stops throughout the tour to visit various sites. Our first stop was Debod Temple. Coming to Spain a good 2,100 miles (3,500 km) from Egypt I did not expect to see an Egyptian temple/monument in the middle of Madrid.
It was built, or more accurately, rebuilt in Madrid as a thank you gift from Egypt for Spain’s assistance during a dam project that would have left the original temple location, and other structures important to Egyptian culture and history, under water once the dam was completed.
That is how in the middle of the capital city of Spain there is a little bit of Egypt for all to enjoy.
