BLUEBONNETS- 2016

The best and prettiest time to drive around Texas is during the spring when all the wildflowers are out. This was, sadly, the first year we set out with the kids to go get bluebonnet pictures (along with every other person in Texas). While looking for good places to go, that aren’t alongside a major interstate, I found a place called the Bluebonnet Trail. It’s in Ennis, TX just south of Downtown Dallas. It is an amazingly beautiful countryside that boasts great photo op places.
I didn’t know what to expect, but I know I expected more of a trail or path we walked than taking photo ops on the side of people’s driveways (see pics of red and bluebonnets). It was actually just back roads winding around the countryside. You were able to stop and take pictures along the way. We stopped to get pictures of the kids and various flowers that add beauty to our beautiful world.
In a little strip of road along the “trail”, we found this great spot that had dense patches of bluebonnets and wasn’t a driveway ;). It was also perfect since it was shaded and the bluebonnets were on a bit of an incline as to make a great backdrop of bluebonnets.
After a bit more driving and a race against the setting sun, we found an open hillside with lots of bluebonnets to try and do a family shot. This was a trick. I set up my tripod (which I LOVE) and the timer on the camera (really wish it would take a series of shots) and raced to where the family was to face the camera just in time for the picture. We did this 5 or 6 times. Sadly it got a little too dark and the kids were over looking at boring flowers for a good kid shot. We’ll see if we will try for a more local spot to try and get all of the kids together.
