While Ryan's parents were here we decided to head to the zoo for a fun day out. The weather was picture perfect for our outing. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and loved looking at all the animals.
Flamingo's- this is one of the first exhibits you come to. It took a while for Kyra and Adeline to realize that those pink/orange lumps off in the distance were birds, but once they started moving and we were able to get a closer look, they were really excited.
All the monkeys were out and swinging. It was really fun to watch them swing and play around. Usually when we come to the zoo it's so hot that all the animals are doing as little as possible to try and stay cool. So it was really fun watching their shenanigans.
Here's our silly Addy girl enjoying a day at the zoo.
Our sweetheart Kyra chillin' in her stroller while we watch the monkeys play.
Gramma Zielke, Kyra and Addy enjoying a ride on a camel. They thought it was really fun and still talk about it.
We asked the kids what animal they were most excited to see and one of them (as they kept changing their minds as soon as the other said a different animal) said elephants. The girls enjoyed watching them. What's really neat is that next time we visit the elephants-as well as other large native African animals-will be in a new exhibit where they will have plenty of room to roam.
Addy (and some other weirdo kids) chasing after the monitor lizard that was pacing back and forth across it's enclosure.
Kyra wasn't too keen on the monitor lizard at first, but when she realized it wasn't going to eat her she started chasing it, too.
Krya and Addy striking a pose on a tortoise statue.
Another must see for our girls. The giraffes, too, will be moved to the new exhibit at the end of the month. It will be really nice to finally see what they have planned for all our favorite animals at the zoo.
The Dallas Zoo has a nice kiddy play area with a large "river" flowing through the middle. In the past we've avoided the water because the kid's area is usually the last place we visit before leaving and we didn't want them to be wet all the way home. But this day we decided to let them go ahead since we were planning on seeing more before we left.
Kyra and Addy looking sweet and dry...for now!
Addy is trying to hold up her shirt to keep it from getting wet because mom told her to try and not get wet. It didn't last, but at least she was trying.
Kyra enjoying the refreshing water. Also trying to not get too wet. Again, didn't work, but at least they tried.
The gorilla's were out and posing for the crowds.
Kyra catching a "ride" on her very own gorilla.
Addy taking a break before we made our way to the car.
Overall a great day! I hope the next time we visit it's just as nice.
