Our holiday started with us driving up to Iowa. I kept asking my self what possessed me to drive NORTH in the middle of winter since I don't like the cold, but we were really excited to go none the less. It was to be a family reunion of sorts as all the kids and their respective families were all coming.
The drive itself was very uneventful with only a little whining and crying from the adults, I mean, the kids.

We left Texas on Friday, December 19th at noon. It was 71 degrees outside and we wore short sleeves. We left at noon to get Ryan from work and ate lunch before heading out. After eating we got on the road. The kids fell asleep before we hit Oklahoma (an hour drive north from where we are).

We didn't see permanent snow until Kansas City, MO. The area had a big storm the day before and were expecting another one the next day, so we were traveling at a good time. The roads were well cleared for the most part on the major roads and freeways. We pulled into the driveway at 12:15 am. We stayed up a little bit after arriving to say our hello's, put the kids to bed and to allow me to come down from a major caffeine high. I was a bit scary.

Saturday we spent relaxing and chilling out after the long drive. Kyra was a bit obsessed with Kyle from the start. She constantly asked about him and wanted to play with him. Kyle was staying in the basement and we tried to keep that area off limits to our kids unless one of us were down there, so he could have a place that was kid free.

On Sunday it was 0 degrees outside and really windy. The windchill was -19 degrees. So in two days we went from 71 to -19 degrees. Needless to say we were cold.
We went to church downtown in the inner city where Dad Zielke was speaking (he is a High Councilman in his stake). We snuck Addy into nursery and enjoyed church without kids crawling over us.

At 2:30am that night/next morning Audrey, Nathan, Hailey and Robert showed up. Our family slept through the arrival and said our hello's later on that morning.

After naps were done, we bundled up the kids and allowed them to play out in the snow. FYI: Yes, we did put mittens and hoods on all the kids to go out and play, but they kept taking them off.

Ryan and Kyle decided that it would be fun to have a snow/ice ball fight. The snow wasn't as much snow as a really thick piece of ice from the freezing rain and sleet they had the night before, but they managed.
