Family Home Evening: Pumpkin Carving- 2008

This last Saturday we went out looking for Halloween costumes for the girls. On the way we saw a neighborhood Halloween party and stopped to take a look. It was open to the public and really fun. It had games and rides and a petting zoo. Not only that but they were giving away little pumpkins. They were just the right size for our little ones, so we picked a couple up and took them with us.

Then for Family Home Evening on Monday night we decided it would be a good time to carve them up and make them Jack-O-Lanterns.

Here is our adventure.Mom and Kyra posing with Kyra's pumpkin.

Dad and Addy with Addy's pumpkin.

Addy braving the yuck that is the inside of a pumpkin to get it all cleaned out.
(The cup in her hand is a smoothie. It was the only thing keeping our girls at the table during the whole event.)

Kyra reaching her hand in as well. She was very willing to do it all by herself and get dirty in the process. She also has smoothie all over her face. Mmmmm!

Mama showing Kyra all the yuckies in the pumpkin.

Addy is mad because daddy wont feed her the pumpkin innards. Also, mmmmmm!

Ryan and I did all the cutting. The girls helped in the facial design. I was just praying that we wouldn't cut anything off of importance with the knives.

Kyra with her finished pumpkin. We had a little bit of trouble when the piece between the nose and mouth broke off, but after a very successful cleft palate surgery, performed by mom, all was well again.

Addy's finished pumpkin, but she wasn't too interested in it. She just wanted more smoothie.

The pumpkins.

Ryan and Kyra set out to rummage through the guts to find all the seeds to bake and eat later.

We all had fun and we didn't lose any fingers in the process. A successful evening all around.
