DMA- Dallas Musuem of Art

Dallas Museum of Art
July 26, 2008

Today we ventured to the Dallas Museum of Art. We were a bit hesitant to take a one-year old and a nearly three-year old, but they seemed to enjoy it.

DISCLAIMER!!
I want to apologize for the quality of some of the following pictures. They do not allow flash photography and so they either came out a bit blurred (due to the slower shutter speed and my complete lack of ability to keep completely still for that half a second it took to take the picture) or dark (you would think a museum would have better lighting).

Here is our adventure!!!
This mosaic was outside the museum. It was probably 10 feet high, about 50 feet long and very small colored glass pieces.

"Music calms the savage beast!"
The DMA has a great audio tour available upon request when you purchase a ticket. The kids liked having their own "phone" to listen to. Some "channels" had music along with their information so we would let the girls listen to those stations repeatedly.

These glass "plates" covered the large window in the large lobby/eatery. Each plate has a spiral design made up of a dark and a light color from the same color family.

Here are some of our more favorite pieces.
We had a lot of favorites!

Art of the Americas
Old Central American Indian God with his froggy friends. I haven't a clue what the frogs are for, but Kyra liked them.

"Cinderella"
This picture was actually a picture of Cinderella. I realized when Kyra gave me a blank stare of "Who in the world is this
Cinderella person?" that she had actually never seen the movie "Cinderella." What kind of mother am I? :~)

This armoire was amazingly decorated and absolutely beautiful. The lighter material was mother of pearl in an intricate floral design and the darker material is mahogany. GORGEOUS!!!

Ryan liked this one and told me to take its picture.

Arts of Africa, Asia & the Pacific Islands

This one was just cool looking. These little men with big hands in what I assume are tribal hand gestures and wild hair.

Kyra saw this one and called it "Mickey"...several times actually.

Sculpture Garden
Throughout the "garden" they had three or four HUGE waterfalls. My kids wanted to jump in and play. It was about all we could do to keep that from happening.

Even though you can't see Adeline's face, I absolutely love this picture. They are looking at each other and you can just tell that they have world of secrets they long to tell each other.

These large stones are placed in a large circle. Kyra immediately walked across them...twice. We were specifically directed not to touch the sculptures. Does a large circle of rocks count as a sculpture???

Just us girls!!!

Kid friendly area!!!

This area was great!!! The kids were itching to get out of the stroller. We would NOT allow them out because they would either run, touch everything or both. In this area they could touch and play with everything. They loved it.

Addy grabbing for crayons and, at times, trying to eat them. Silly Addy!

Kyra trying to color textures onto her paper. They had eight or so different textures to test out.

Heading Home!
On the way out we got a picture of Dad and his girls.

We may have tuckered the kids out. Addy had a short nap on the way to the museum and Kyra hadn't had one at all. They slept all the way home and were C.R.A.N.K.Y. when they woke up.

But man are they cute!!!!!!!
